Website design
Editorial Emergency approached me to design a website for their boutique copywriting agency. On the surface, it seemed straightforward—until the core challenge became clear: how do you visually represent a service rooted in language?
Literal imagery—pens, paper, typewriters—felt obvious. The brand needed something sharper.
THE WEBSITE
After Julia completed my intake questionnaire, a clear aesthetic emerged: black leather jackets, black nail polish, skinny-brim hats, Doc Martens, and a collection of black-and-white punk pins.
Rather than default to generic “writer” imagery, I built the visual direction around her personal style. I designed and produced a custom set of black-and-white pins featuring the logo, tagline, and irreverent graphics, then styled and photographed them layered onto her motorcycle jacket for the homepage hero.
A second portrait—Julia biting down on a pencil—introduced humor and self-awareness, reinforcing the brand’s tone: sharp, smart, and not self-serious.

LOGO
Editorial Emergency’s tagline—“Word nerds for hire”—inspired a subtly geek-forward logo system. The Clark Kent–style glasses felt iconic, and a precisely placed pen transformed the mark from clever to character-driven.
